Product Description

How Waterjet Cutting Equipment is Reshaping Safety in Coal Mining

Technical Advantages of Emulsion-Driven Waterjet Cutting Equipment

1. Explosion-Proof Design and Spark-Free Operation

Emulsion-driven waterjet cutting equipment uses high-pressure emulsion as the working medium and enables spark-free operation through remotely controlled power sources, fundamentally eliminating the risk of methane ignition. The system integrates overpressure alarms, low-pressure protection, and backflow-prevention devices, combined with dual protection from hydraulic control valves and safety valves. This ensures automatic power cut-off in the event of abnormal pressure conditions.

Operating pressures are well below international safety thresholds, making the equipment particularly suitable for high-gas underground coal mines. Compared with conventional cutting methods, this technology completely avoids hazards associated with open flames, high temperatures, and static electricity.

2. Cutting Performance and Productivity Gains

The equipment is powered by an industrial high-pressure plunger pump that delivers strong kinetic energy, achieving cutting efficiency significantly superior to conventional methods. Taking the QSM-4.5-RZ model as an example, it can cut 8 mm steel plate at a speed of up to 100 mm/min, with a kerf width as narrow as 0.3–0.5 mm, greatly reducing material waste.

In on-site applications at the Yuwu Coal Mine, this technology increased gas drainage concentration by 20%. At the same time, its cold-cutting characteristics prevent thermal deformation, ensuring the integrity of the coal structure and creating favorable conditions for subsequent gas control operations.

Compared with traditional mechanical cutting, the abrasive waterjet cutting method extends tool service life by more than 30%. In waterjet-assisted shearer trials, drill bit life was significantly improved due to the combined cooling and lubrication effects, indirectly reducing equipment maintenance costs.

3. Extreme Operating Conditions and Mobility

The complete unit weighs only 135 kg, allowing two-person portable operation and flexible deployment in confined underground spaces. It is well suited for complex scenarios such as longwall faces and development roadways. The operating temperature range spans –20 °C to 40 °C, ensuring stable performance in both extremely cold mines and high-temperature mining areas.

Its dust-suppression performance is particularly outstanding. Under 3000 psi operating pressure, waterjet-assisted cutting can reduce dust concentration by more than 70%, while water consumption is only one-third of that required by traditional spray dust-suppression systems. In simulated coal-block cutting tests, an optimal dust-control effect was achieved with a combination of 3000 psi pressure and 190 psi flow.

In addition, operating noise is kept below 85 dB, with no toxic gas emissions. The wastewater generated during cutting can be recycled after simple filtration, fully meeting the environmental requirements of green and sustainable coal mining.

Emulsion-Driven Technology Leads a Revolution in Safe and Efficient Coal Mine Cutting

Emulsion-driven waterjet cutting technology is ushering in a fundamental transformation of cutting operations in coal mines. As the only mature cold-cutting technology suitable for underground applications, it utilizes high-pressure waterjets to achieve spark-free cutting, fundamentally eliminating explosion and fire risks in high-gas environments. At the same time, by reducing stress loads in coal and rock masses, it mitigates gas dynamic hazards and redefines safety standards for underground mining operations.

With ongoing advances in intelligent control and the continuous improvement of technical standards, this technology is set to become a core engine of coal mine intelligent transformation, driving the industry toward a future that is safer, more efficient, low-carbon, and sustainably developed.
